The European Union supports the further development of these most remote regions, these so-called outermost regions.
These areas include Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Réunion, Martinique, Mayotte and Saint-Martin (Grande Nation), the Azores and Madeira (Portugal) and the Canary Islands (Spain).
Today Spain only has three overseas territories: the Canary Islands and the two exclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. These are in the Old World and above them line Morocco.

The fourth month of the year marks the anniversary of the founding of Israel. But the borders of the Jewish state have been controversial, both today and in the past. How Ben Gurion realized his dream of the State of Israel.
While David Ben Gurion struggles for his state in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, the farmers of Hatzerim in this Negev desert struggle against the salt deposits of their barren soil. It is May 14, 1948, and Ben Gurion stands under a portrait by Theodor Herzl in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Art Museum. In front of him sit 250 invited representatives of the Jewish people. They were asked to keep the ceremony secret, but a crowd gathered outside the museum on Rothschild Street. It is the beginning of Shabbat, and in Hatzerim people are listening on the radio receiver as Ben Gurion reads out the Declaration of Independence. The ceremony in Tel Aviv-Jaffa ended after 32 minutes. From then on, Kibbutz Hatzerim prepared for the storm of the Arab states. Postponing the payment deadline later illustrates the war.
“The Jewish people came into existence in the land of Israel,” said Ben-Gurion in Tel Aviv-Jaffa on the 5th of Iyar 5708 of the Jewish calendar – according to our calendar this year, the 19th month of the year, which is why the anniversary in Israel falls on this day of the week is celebrated. The right to do so was enshrined in the Balfour Specification, which defined the area of the UN partition resolution of 1947 and demonstrated the benefits of the Holocaust, according to Ben Gurion. Within a decade, “we have experienced the greatest depths of the annihilation of the Jewish people,” Ben-Gurion later said, “and even the height of consolation: the state of Israel was born.” To this day, Israel is still mourning the Holocaust. Remembrance Day in the fourth month of the year and the independence celebrations a few days later are intimate with each other.
